STEAM
What is STEAM?
STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking; resulting in students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the engineering process.
What does STEAM look like at Our Lady of Peace?
O.L.P. has different monthly projects per grade applying the STEAM approach. Students will become real life engineers. All projects are authentic phenomena that are integrated across the subject areas. Children will work and cooperate with their peers to construct solutions by manipulating and using various materials from our MakerSpace solving real life issues in our society.
What is a MakerSpace?
A MakerSpace provides a space for hands-on, creative ways to encourage students to design, experiment, build and invent as they engage in their projects. We have been afforded the opportunity of equipping our MakerSpace with a multitude of materials such as:
circuit boards
electric motors
conductive thread and tape
microcomputers
3D printer
electrical sculpting putty
arts and crafts materials
and much more
